Basement: A Story and a Horror Movie Review!

Did I mention that I love movies? Did I mention I had a group movie date last February 14? And did I mention it was a horror movie? Yeah, I did mention all of those. Here it is…

Among a lot of choices in the cinema that day, we chose this. For one reason… it’s horror and we’re single. It was quite a movie, actually. And it’s been a while since I last watched a local movie in a cinema. Spending money for a local movie wasn't really my game. I’d rather spend it in an arcade or something. Most of the time I prefer Hollywood films. But that day was different. I had friends with me. And it would be too selfish for me if I chose a Hollywood film of my own liking. I have to consider my friends, right? And so we watched! For the next two hours…

After two hours…

It was a good film, all in all. With superb casting and acting. I especially love Betong’s role in the movie. He was the comic relief. You expect a horror movie to terrify you, right? And a movie’s goal is to make the audience feel what the movie’s genre is offering. So if it’s comedy, the audience should laugh. If it’s drama, the audience should cry. If it’s romance, the audience should feel kilig. And if it’s horror, the audience should be scared. If the exact opposite thing happened, the movie is a major failure. Like, audience crying in a comedy movie. Or audience laughing in a drama movie. Or audience getting scared in a romantic movie. That’s a disaster, right? But, of course, movies of today can now mix two very opposite genres in one movie and still create effective plots about it. I don’t know if the people behind the movie “Basement” intended it to be a horror-comedy film, but I, sure, did laugh a lot. Because of Betong most of the time. I have a lot of favorite scenes from the movie. WARNING: SPOILER ALERT!

First. Louise Delos Reyes running towards the lower part of the Mananangal (played well by Ellen Adarna) with fisted salt on her hands. And when she reached the Mananangal’s lower body part, there’s no salt in her hands anymore! Oh, come on! While she was running, the salt slipped gradually until no more salt remained. Bummer!

Second. Betong’s battle with the Mananangal’s lower body part. And he lost. And died. Fighting two pairs of legs killed his character. What a way to die!

Third. Betong and the Mananangal exchanging looks. I just can’t put into words the exact happening. Sorry!

Fourth. Fifth. Sixth and so on. Nah, too much spoilers already.

One of my basis of a very good horror movie is when the movie exceeded your expectation in a way that you never expected. In this movie, I was expecting Aljur Abrenica’s special participation will save the day. But the exact opposite thing happened. Bummer again!

Here are some photos I collected from Googling. Credits to all photo owners: D

That’s the Mananangal. Ellen Adarna! Yeah!

That’s the Mananangal with its wing.

Louise Delos Reyes still looking beautiful in a death-bound situation.

And this is where Aljur Abrenica shot the supposed hero of the movie! Grrrrr!

That’s a blue car. With LUV 143 in its plate. See? Even plate numbers have its own humor.

That’s the Basement, guys. For those who did not watch it yet. You still have time. it’s still showing. Go!

And once again, I displayed yet another good talent for endorsement *<laugh>*. Hey, Basement, I deserve some love. Peace out!

Photo Challenge Day 1!

All right. Day 1, guys. And the first photo challenge is to post a photo of me with ten facts about, well, me. I’m not sure if I have to write the facts within the photo or just put it as a caption. The challenge was not really detailed. So, I’ll do it the hard rock way. And, by the way, the facts I’m about to mention here are so random. It just flew in my mind. Unedited. Unsolicited. Unthought-of.

Well. That’s me. And a recent photo at that. This was taken just last February 14. Yeah. Valentine’s Day. And Single-Awareness Day for me. But I did some celebration, of course. With four of the most awesome people in the world (in their own rights). And, look, I’m wearing a red tee. Color of love. And War! Blood! Even Death! And in Africa, it symbolizes mourning! *<laugh>*. Am I being too bitter? Sorry. And while we were walking around the mall, there’s a lot of love going on. Heart-shaped balloons! Roses! Chocolates! Couples WWHH! Boys with flowers! Girls with stuffed toys! Janitors making out! Guards with red guns! Saleslady with love-infested uniforms! Restaurants offering good-for-two meal promos! Every damn item in the market in pairs! I mean, come on! *<LOL>*. Anyways, we did not allow the love-filled-ambiance of the place took the better of us. Instead, we watched a horror movie. Yeah, horror! And I kept on insisting that horror movies are for singles. That’s why we chose to watch “Basement” instead of “Starting Over Again”. Go ahead. Laugh!

Sorry for the bitterness. And here are the facts about me!

Fact no. 1: I LOVE CHLOE GRACE MORETZ!

I mean, you should see that coming. *<Lol>*. I have this huge admiration going on within me for this girl! Who doesn’t, anyway? She’s a superb actress at a very young age. And I watched most of her movies too. From 500 Days of Summer, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Kick-Ass, Let Me In, Kick-Ass 2, to Carrie! All must-watch movies! Oh, come on.

Fact no. 2: I COLLECT K-ZONE MAGAZINES!

Childish? Nah. K-zone has a lot of cool stuff for adults than meets the eye. They tackle a lot of things that I am still interested into. Like latest released music albums; latest released DVD’s; must-read books; latest news of upcoming flicks; special articles for some of my favorite stuff on Earth (One Piece, Pokemon, Fairy Tail, WWE, and a lot more); the coolest calendar in the whole world; top apps to download; reviews on a lot of cool techie things like smartphones, tablets, gaming consoles, and grandest cars ever; hilarious comics; the coolest robot of them all: K-Leb; interviews with famous people; the ever-info-giving news by the number; and of course, the most helpful Game-zone! So, if you find adults looking for K-zone at some random mag stalls or supermarkets… be cool and don’t think about the dude being kiddy. Kiddy?!? *<laugh>*. PS. I hope K-Zone notices my endorsement here. *<winks>*

Fact no. 3:  I’M A CERTIFIED CHICO LOCO FAN!

And that’s him. Your humbleness himself, his name is Chico Loco! He’s a DJ from one of my favorite radio stations: 101.1 Yes FM. And he’s a total package. You just couldn’t stop yourself from listening to him when you get to know him more. And he’s one of a kind. I mean, he’s very different from your typical radio DJ’s. I have to admit, I was never a fan of any radio stations. I don’t listen to DJ’s and their boring conversations on air. Sorry for that, but there are a lot of DJ’s out there who are so far away from their goals, and that is to entertain. But you have to exempt Chico Loco from that. Coz he’s a one-man entertainment band! Oh, he’s not one-man, though. He has with him six totally cool, totally entertaining, equally funny guys who will rock up your weekday nights. And they are Chiklet, Notnot, Lola Kerps, Kapitan Tutan, Koyang, and Madam Chiki! See? All seven of them in one fun-packed radio program! What are you waiting for? It’s time for you to tune in and check Chico Loco for yourself!

Fact no. 4: MY HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT IN FLAPPY BIRD: 127!

I still remember the time when I checked Flappy Bird for download and decided not to. For one reason only, its graphics is so old-school. In this modern era, graphics in mobile games means a lot. In fact, it’s one of the things I check out first before trying a game. But I couldn’t resist its popularity anymore! I mean, it’s taking the whole world upside down. My Facebook news feed showed a lot of my friends posting their Flappy Bird scores. And so I tried it for myself. And, boy, was I hooked! And after so many days of failed attempts to trample my sister’s score, it only took me as high as (or as low as) 127! Sadly, Flappy Bird developer took it away from the market. Apparently, he couldn’t take it anymore. You can read the whole story somewhere in the net.

Fact no. 5: I’M A PROUD MEMBER OF THE PORNELOS FAMILY!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my family. Just look for me! I’m second from the eldest. And I am the cutest. Your argument is invalid! You probably heard this before, but I mean it. If I were to be born again, and be given the chance to choose the family I’d want, I’d still want this. We’re not perfect, you know. We have our individual differences. We argue a lot. I mean a lot! But that doesn’t hinder us from uniting as a family. That’s just it. Families are one of the things that keep you driven to do what you do. And my family is no exemption.

Fact no. 6: I HAVE A TWITTER ACCOUNT!

Sad, eh. Look at that. I only have 10 followers! And I’m following a lot. Well, I’m not much of a twitter guy. I’m more into Facebook and Instagram (where I have 5,028 followers… yeah, man!). But, it’s a fact. So I included it here. So maybe, just maybe, you could stop pitying me and just follow me. Go ahead!

Fact no. 7: I HAVE CARDS!

And not just cards, you know. These are cards that collect points whenever you do shopping. It’s quite convenient, actually. It’s just getting something from the things you already bought. And if you collected enough points to purchase something, you could have it without spending a penny. See? I have SM Advantage Card, Shopwise Wise Card, Mercury Drugs Suki Card, Tom’s World Card, and Jollibee Happy Plus Card. And I’m planning to collect more!

Fact no. 8: I PLAYED EVERY POKEMON GAMES EXCEPT POKEMON X AND Y!

This is a sad fact. I’m so sad that I can’t say anything about this. Sorry. *<Sniff>*

Fact no. 9: MY FAVORITE COLOR IS GREEN!

Hello? Who wouldn’t love green? It’s the color of, uhm, leaves, right? And the Green Lantern. The Green Hornet. The Green Arrow. And, uhm, many more *<laugh>*. You know what they say, you don’t need reasons when you love something. I just love green. Period!

Fact no. 10: I HAVE A LOT OF FRIENDS!

And I mean a lot, man! And I can’t post their pictures. There’s just too many. It will take you million years to load this page! And I’m glad that I’m blessed with a lot of friends. They make your existence far more meaningful. As they say, friends are the family you choose.

That’s it, guys. Day 1 photo challenge done. See you tomorrow!

The Return of the Comeback!

Here’s to a new year! Uhm, actually its 40 days after New Year. And I’m terribly sorry for the long inactivity of this blogspot. I feel ashamed of myself. I feel bad to all my fans there! All seven of them! *<laugh>*. They’re still fans, you know. There are a lot of reasons, of course. Reasons that if summarized, it would lead to ‘busyness, sloth, poor internet connection, NO INTERNET CONNECTION, vacation, and _________. So all right, here’s a good deal. From now, I solemnly swear that I am up to no good. Oh, sorry. That’s the Weasley Twins line on Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azkaban. That’s the line you’ll say before using the Marauder’s Map (watch the movie if you can’t relate). Oh, nostalgia. I just love that movie franchise. Maybe I’ll do a special article for Harry Potter. But not now. Because I already have an idea that would keep this blog busy for the next 100 days. Yeah. You read it, right. 100 days! That’s a tough job. And well, fun, too. So I’m gonna do it. So I could make up for all the lost and wasted days that I didn’t write anything in this blog. And this, this ladies and gentlemen, is called… 100 Day Photo Challenge. Actually it’s not an original idea. A friend of mine, my number one internet fan, started this on Facebook. And I was, like, “oh, I can do this on my site.” And I was, like, “Yeah, why not?”. Thanks to Fides Remilyn Tan for this. And to return the favor, I’m gonna ask you, guys, or beg you, even, to follow her on Instagram @fidhez. And you will do her a very big favor indeed.

I love twists, by the way. It’s what makes a movie interesting. And maybe a blog, too. So, I’ll do some improvements with this challenge. I’m not gonna post a picture for the sake of only complying with the challenge. I’d pick pictures (yeah, PLURAL) and post it here and tell something about it. Something like the reason behind it, or its impact on me, or its social factor, or just plain it. I don't know, everything under the sun. That’s me. And so, tomorrow… February 22, 2014… my 100 day photo challenge will commence. Bow!
